A Delightful Animal
The Divine Eye: Seeing the Good in Everything and Everyone, March 24, 1995, Oasis Bookstore, Amherst, Massachusetts
I wanted to ask a question about my cat. I heard you speaking about pets last time and I have a cat and his name is Moon, and he coughs a lot, and the vet said that it is fur balls, but I’m not convinced.
Yes. It is not. It is not fur balls. It is lungs. [Sighs] It is bronchitis. The cat has bronchitis.
Any suggestions?
Yes. Mr. Dave has a new tea that is helpful.
Ginseng?
No.
Ginger?
Echinacea. That kind of tea. A little bit of weak tea poured into the cat’s water dish would be helpful, based on the Echinacea flower. That would help. Also, dear one, if you would be willing to try it, and if the cat would be willing to try it, acupuncture for the animal would be helpful. Acupuncture is extremely helpful for the lungs of all living creatures. And his lungs are old lungs. They are special lungs.
You are keeping your home very clean. It is not a matter of dust or pollen. It is just that his lungs are prone to bronchitis. When he coughs he may very well bring up things from his stomach because that is a sympathetic reaction within the cat’s body. The cat is used to producing fur balls when it coughs like that. And so, many cats will actually create fur balls out of the contents of their stomach to simply meet the expectation. But he is a dear one. A really dear one.
His tail seems to be a little twisted. If he can sit still for a while or lay still, with his head pointed away from you, with your hands on each side and your thumbs up like this, put your hands on the side of his neck, with your thumbs over his ears so that his ears are here in the space here between your fingers and your thumb. And your hands are like over his eyes, your thumbs and your hands backwards with your thumbs on either side of his spine, all the back to his tail. When you reach the root of his tail, you will have a very strong feeling that his tail is a little bit, not kinked, but actually the whole tail is slightly twisted. Almost as though at the root bone.
There is what you call subluxation. A twist there and the whole tail is slightly twisted. You shouldn’t give it a good crack. But what would be helpful is to massage just above the root bone. In his pelvic area, there are some holes in the bone that are soft places— to massage in there would be helpful. And then, also, to give gentle traction on the tail. That would be helpful. His whole nervous system would be helped with that.
Do you think that explains part of why he can’t jump up using his back legs?
Yes. Yes. Also, he does have a touch of the arthritis. But for the arthritis, homeopathic remedies are helpful, dropped into his water so they dissolve there. He will consume one homeopathic pillule per day, or perhaps every two days, whereas the average human being would take three under their tongue at a time, several times a day. That is the difference in the dosage. If you would take three for arthritis, three times or four times a day, he should take one, once a day. And you can look in the homeopathic guidebook for the proper arthritis remedy for the kind of constitution that he’s got.
It is a beloved beast, really a delightful animal. Keeping himself clean, this is good. His long hairs toward the back of him can become soiled, but he is not likely to tolerate being dirty. Do you give him a foot massage?
No.
The points on the cat’s feet are very similar to the cat’s feet and human palms. They are fairly similar. Different number of toes perhaps, but generally on the pads of the toes and pad of the feet, there are points that are generally really responsive, and the lung point would respond well for him.
Great.
Do you know his birthday?
I think it is May of ’81.
He is about to have a birthday then. Will you give him the Rebirthing?
Sure.
That is very good. Yes, it is very good. You can do it with him or you can do it in the hot water tub with him in the room with you.
O.K.
Now, the other beast has, uh, got a bit more simple life. This one really, as you are well aware: eat, sleep, eat, sleep. That is about all there is to it. It is not because the animal doesn’t want more. But it is really because that animal has a limited capacity to comprehend its world. It is really only able to understand what is really right here in front of it.
The larger world isn’t on its mind. For most cats, they think about a lot of things in the world all the time. They’re very aware animals. But this animal tends to be quite narrowly focused, with a cone of attention, going down to a point. So, it is what it is. If you want it to know something, put it down there in front of it pinpoint. It is a big one. It is really large. [Laughs] It is a fat cat. Yes.
Yeah. Eat, sleep, that is it.
There is a poodle here.
Yes.
What is your poodle’s name?
Hudson.
Yes.
